Let it snow let it snow let it snow! We’ve been in NY for the past week and have had a dose of actual winter and now I want all of the snowy winter sessions.

A few winter sessions coming up in January and I hope I’m driving into a snowy pines, snowflakes the size of my face, snowball fighting, snow angel making weather. Winter wonderlands are the best! I think because the springs typically sees a little snowfall and then it melts the same day, I long for days like this. Cheers to hot chocolates! Merry Belated Birthday, 8lb 6oz baby Jesus! Love youuuu

I know…I know…. You’re getting married and y

I know…I know…. You’re getting married and you want picture perfect lighting for every moment of the day. Warm sunset soaked photos from first look to portraits, all the way through ceremony and some…but time is a thief and warm sunsets can’t last forever, even in the Wild West and land of dinosaur bones.

You might be thinking, ‘no eternal sun?’ And like Mother Nature is looking at you a lot like the second photo. But trust me, warm sunsets aren’t a must and even though photographers have been preaching it for years, because we know it’s not realistic, Gen Z has thankfully been getting married and showing the rest of the world that playing with shadows and direct sun can be super cool if you can avoid sun face.

It adds drama and mystery. Even gives you more of an editorial feel to your photos. It creates dimension and mood. Which I think mood is never really associated with bright light places and time of day. If your photographer underexposed the original image, you get a perfect balance of contrast with light and dark.

Bonus points if you wear a tiara and glitter tie! My point is, make sure your photographer knows how to get the best out of all lighting situations and not just the sunset chasers. Love you!

I’m wrapping up Rohan and Amanda’s wedding tod

I’m wrapping up Rohan and Amanda’s wedding today and man o man does reliving this day bring me joy. This wedding could party and it was SO beautiful. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Colorado is beautiful in the fall, but it has nothing on the north east. If you’ve never been, don’t go, you’ll hate it. Probably shouldn’t go hiking there either 🤌🏼

First, I want to ask. Is there anything hotter than being fed burgers and pizza by the love of your life after you’ve danced your butt off all night? No. The answer is no.

But on another note, I asked a few of my couples to do something a little different this year. You know the beautiful flat lays of flowers, shoes, perfume, invites and jewelry? Well I asked Rohan and Amanda to include another bag of keepsakes from the past and their time dating. Whether it was jewelry, tickets, passes, old flowers, etc… and in there was the cutest little dinosaur origami. The story behind it was really funny and sweet and I love that something she made before they even started dating, made its way into such a significant part of their story together.

So photographers, if you’re looking for more sentimental pieces to add to your couple’s day. Trade it in for something less matchy and new. I highly recommend.

When it comes to interviewing wedding photographer

When it comes to interviewing wedding photographers, I think it’s important that the photographer come with a lot of questions.

What do you want out of your wedding photos? Where is your budget? Have you been in/attended a wedding where you saw something you liked/didn’t like? Whats your take on engagement photos? How do you feel about first look? Do you have a wedding party? Have you thought about a 2nd photographer? What are some musts that you want captured?

That’s outside of all of the other questions I ask! Like, where are you from? How did you meet? What made you choose this location for your wedding? Is there any place that’s special to you?

These questions are a must for me! I want to know what’s important to you, so I can build collections to fit your day. To choose locations for your session that could be more than just somewhere pretty. To tentatively build a timeline to make it work for your day and how much coverage I think you’ll need. The list goes on and I think it’s important for the conversation to flow. I’m with you more than any other vendor on your wedding day. But hey! Im not just a vendor, I’m a human being that you have to jive with for 4-12 hours out of your day.

After I ask all of the questions and giving you recommendations, I hope you’re not left with just one question (the question I loathe). What makes you different from other photographers? To be honest, I feel like such a generalized question can be taken so many different directions. You can find a photographer anywhere with photos you might like and they seem nice and they fit your budget perfectly, but my only answer comes from what my couples have to say about me.

Not only did I deliver a gallery that reflected the beauty of their day, but I took time with my couples AND their gallery. I made them comfortable. I blended in with their guests. I sewed a button back on a jacket. I bustled a wedding dress. I created the timeline. I recommended other vendors that flowed seamlessly with the day. I grabbed my couple a drink from the bar. I handed out bubbles/wands/sparklers. I drove them instead of rode with them..etc..

Don’t go back to Texas! I left Omar and Natalie’s wedding a pile of mush. How could I not swoon over this day?! Seriously.

You know, when you lose a child, they put a butter

You know, when you lose a child, they put a butterfly on the door at the hospital so the nurses know how to walk into the room. As time goes on, you don’t get to do that. You want the day to go on, but there’s moments that NEED to happen to continue to heal and for the most part, the day goes on, work continues, needs and wants need to be met. Over time, you start to experience different feelings and I think that’s why grieving is still always necessary. I bought this notebook the other day. I had plans to sit and rewrite everything I ever recall writing about our little boy.

I didn’t get to do that yesterday, but I was grateful for the little blips of vulnerability and tears throughout the day with my husband. I’m grateful for the cake we ate in celebration of Otto’s 3rd birthday. How his sister always finds joy in it. How Brida Will always grow up celebrating a brother she’s never met. She’ll grow to know that we love hard here in this house.

Time passing brings up so many different feelings. Would we have continued to have Brida if Otto were here? I’d like to think so. What would he be into? What quirks would he have? What would be the funny things he said or what would he throw fits about? What would we have bought him for his 3rd birthday? Are we done having kids? Are we not done having kids? I don’t know if my sanity could handle the what ifs again…. Being blissfully unaware is such a beautiful thing, but there’s something beautiful about knowing what the heart can endure too.

This morning I sat with this and I’m so glad I did. Happy 3rd birthday my sweet sweet boy. Wish you were here! And thank you so much to friends and family that reach out on his birthday every year. We love to celebrate him ❤️
