NICK + HEATHER’S SUNRISE ELOPEMENT AT SPRUCE MOUNTAIN | LARKSPUR COLORADO | COLORADO ELOPEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER
When Heather and Nick reached out to me about photographing their elopement, they had kind of mentioned that they weren’t making it very public. They didn’t want to have it turn into this huge ordeal and I was instantly hooked and all about it. Some couples choose to elope and tell everyone about it before hand. What can seem like an innocent announcement can quickly turn into a lot of unwanted input. Where on the other hand, some couples choose to fly under that radar until they tie the knot. Which I can absolutely appreciate.
When plans first formed, they were keeping it local to Palmer Park in Colorado Springs, but plans changed as time went on. They decided to do a sunrise elopement at a place they had hiked together once before in Larkspur.
We all arrived at the Spruce Mountain Trailhead in the dark with headlamps and flashlights. Some signs for directions had fallen and we all just kind of chuckled and kept on hiking just hoping we’d end up in the right spot. When we reached the top of the trail, Nick turned on his bluetooth speaker to Chris Stapleton radio and friends made hot coffee while Heather got ready in the trees. It was the most calm morning you could imagine.
Nick and Heather took a swig of whiskey and headed down to their ceremony spot, surrounded by their closest friends, said their vows during a beautiful sunrise and topped off the day with a mojito party at their place…without even telling many people what it was for I might add!
You’ll read a little further down about the rest of the day, but I also want people out there considering eloping to look at this as a true example of a meaningful day and full of intention. A gorgeous couple, vows, amazing friends, a few drinks and a hike up a mountain to watch the sunrise.
One of my favorite moments of the morning was Nick and Heather reading their vows to each other. After Nick said his vows, he went in for a kiss and Heather quickly leaned out of it. She said that he wasn’t allowed to kiss her yet. He was totally taken off guard and they both burst into laughter. While Heather took out her vows, Nick got on ‘her level’ and it was honestly one of my favorite ceremonies that I’ve ever photographed. A moment that wasn’t JUST for sweet meaningful words, but really showed how playful they are with each other and I thought that was the sweetest.
After the ceremony, they passed around some local whiskey and popped some champagne and everyone celebrated by toasting and saying a few words. I say few words, but they were mostly followed up with hilarious stories of all their past together. I’m pretty positive my face hurt from laughing so hard that morning. When you look at the rest of the storyline, you’ll really see how much fun these guys have together.
