Carbondale, Colorado, is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of the Roaring Fork Valley. Just 40 minutes outside of Aspen and 20 minutes from Glenwood Springs, this laid-back mountain town has breathtaking views of the 13er, Mount Sopris. The town has a laid back atmosphere and freaking incredible landscapes. It’s the perfect place for a Carbondale wedding or elopement.
Speaking of unforgettable, let me tell you about Zac and Rachel. These two are the kind of couple you instantly vibe with—the kind of connection where sharing snacks becomes a symbol of true friendship. After they said “I do,” we hopped back in the car on our way to their picnic and bonded over a bag of beef jerky. Sharing beef jerky with someone? That’s a bond I never forget. In fact, that’s love.
Originally, Zac and Rachel were planning a big wedding in Woodland Park, near Colorado Springs. They envisioned a fall celebration with lots of guests. But somewhere along the way, they realized that an intimate elopement was more their style. So, on a chilly May morning at 3 AM, I arrived at their Airbnb in Carbondale to capture their special day. I was greeted by their adorable dogs, Otto and Charlie, who added even more joy to the day. Who doesn’t love a dog?!
The morning was nothing short of magical. Zac carried Rachel’s dress up the stairs and helped her into it. With bags, flowers, leashes, and champagne in hand, we set out for a nearby trailhead. The hike led us to a beautiful spot overlooking Mt. Sopris, where they read their vows as the sun rose, exchanged rings, and sealed the moment with a kiss. The intimacy and beauty of that sunrise ceremony were unparalleled. We literally felt like the only people around at that moment.
But they didn’t stop there. After their vows, Zac and Rachel lit a unity candle, shared a heartfelt first dance, popped champagne, and signed their marriage license. Then we ventured to an open space where they enjoyed a morning picnic in the shade while Otto and Charlie roamed freely. We captured more portraits in the gorgeous morning light before heading back to the Airbnb for a few final, sweet moments.
Zac and Rachel’s day was a testament to the beauty of carving out a wedding experience that truly reflects who you are as a couple. Their Carbondale elopement was everything a wedding day should be: personal, picturesque, and filled with love. They had the entire day to themselves, soaking in every moment and creating memories in one of the most beautiful places in Colorado.
Carbondale weddings and elopements are nothing short of a dream. Whether you’re drawn to the majestic views of Mt. Sopris, the red rock atmosphere of the Roaring Fork Valley, or the idea of a day that’s truly and uniquely yours, Carbondale offers it all. You hang in a laid back town, hit up Glenwood Springs for a dip in the hot springs or drive to Aspen to have a more luxurious experience and witness Maroon Bells. Zac and Rachel’s story is proof that sometimes, the simplest days are the most extraordinary and let’s not forget. That’s what your day should be about! YOU.

OH! And if you’re in love with Rachel’s dress as much as I am, she’s a BHLDN bride. Anthropologie really knows how to do it all.
