As a photographer, I’m often asked if I capture moments beyond couples and weddings. My answer is always a YES. While I absolutely adore documenting love stories, family and maternity sessions hold a deeply special place in my heart—especially when I’ve had the honor of photographing a couple’s engagement and wedding day. There’s something so incredible about being invited to witness and capture life’s biggest milestones, from engagements to weddings and beyond. If anyone reading this knows our story with our kiddos, you know they hold a very special place in my heart and it’s so important to capture these moments.
Recently, I had the joy of photographing Molly and Ben again, this time as their family grows. I first met them during their engagement session at Rocky Mountain National Park. Later, I was there for their gorgeous wedding in Estes Park, celebrating their love surrounded by Colorado’s beautiful mountains. Fast forward to today (well, now some time ago at this point), and I found myself documenting another precious chapter in their story: a sun-soaked Paint Mines session.
For this session, we traded the peaks of the Rockies for the warm, glowing goodness (and under-rated I may add) of Colorado’s high plains. There’s a special magic in the sunsets here, particularly when photographing at unique locations like the Paint Mines Interpretive Park. A Paint Mines Session is perfect for families or couples looking for a one-of-a-kind backdrop. The vivid colors of the sandstone formations and the open skies create a dreamy, ethereal setting that’s hard to beat.
Photographing Molly, Ben, and their soon-to-be little one in such a sweet, peaceful and breezy environment reminded me how much I love the diversity of Colorado’s landscapes. While mountain backdrops are stunning, there’s something equally breathtaking about the rolling plains and uniqueness of places like the Paint Mines. Whether it’s a maternity session, a family shoot, or a Paint Mines Session celebrating love, each moment feels extraordinary in its own way.
Being part of my clients’ journeys, from their engagement to their growing family, is a privilege I don’t take lightly. It’s a testament to the power of photography and its ability to freeze time during life’s most meaningful moments. If you’re dreaming of your own Paint Mines Session or a family shoot in another scenic Colorado location, let’s make it happen. These fleeting moments deserve to be beautifully preserved.
