If you’re looking for a Brooklyn couple session that feels authentic to your life together, Ry and Matthew’s time behind my camera was sweet inspiration. Their NYC love story came to life in the streets they call home—sharing drinks, wandering the local market, admiring street art, and soaking in music. This session proves that your everyday moments in Brooklyn can be so sweet and beautiful. Even if we’re getting eaten alive by mosquitos and it’s in the 90’s outside.
When I first started planning a session with Ry and Matthew, I expressed wanting it to feel like them. Living in Brooklyn (Bushwick), they’re surrounded by so much culture, creativity, and energy—it only made sense to let their everyday lives inspire their shoot. Instead of heading to the typical tourist spots, we built the day around the things they naturally love to do together.
We started by popping a bottle in Ry’s backyard. He’s a local artist, so they shared a drink while Ry played the banjo and serenaded Matthew. From there, we wandered through their neighborhood market, weaving between all of the fresh produce. Documenting them in their element, shoulder to shoulder and sneaking glances are always special to see. When couples have the ability to ignore the noise and be in their own bubble.
As we explored more of Brooklyn, the colorful street art pulled us in. They brought me to their favorite murals and we ended at their favorite neighborhood bar. A fun hole in the wall type of place.
Ry and Matthew’s Brooklyn session was a reminder that the best photos aren’t always about grand gestures or elaborate settings. Sometimes, the magic is in capturing the daily and weekend rituals that reflect who you are as a couple.
For couples that live in the city, but don’t love being the center of attention. This is your permission to hang in the backyard (if you’re lucky enough to have one). Share a few drinks and listen to some music. Walk to your favorite spots and let the day to day tell it’s story. Whether it’s a Brooklyn couple session, a love story in Manhattan or upstate in the woods, Let’s chat!
