A Brooklyn engagement session like this one with Mac and Andrea is exactly why I love photographing couples in the places that feel most like them. These two live in Brooklyn and wanted their session to reflect real life. There was no stiff posing, no forced moments. It was just a day spent hopping between their favorite neighborhood spots, doing what they love together.
We started their Brooklyn engagement session in Williamsburg, wandering from bar to bar and letting the day unfold naturally. Espresso martinis kicked things off, followed by cold beers and easy conversation. You can always tell when someone feels at home with the other person. I photographed them playing Connect Four and pinball. If you ask Andrea, she’ll say she always wins Connect Four..and she did. Williamsburg loves to show off with it’s pretty effortless grit and charm, and it was the perfect backdrop for documenting their love.
As the afternoon went on, we made our way north toward Greenpoint. Taking up more space than we probably should, claiming a booth and the floor, and devouring what might be some of the best pizza slices in Brooklyn. This part of their Brooklyn engagement session felt especially intimate. It wasn’t about the photos as much as it was about being present and sharing food. It was honest, unfiltered and let’s be real. Food is a love language in New York for so many reasons.
The rain came in mid-session, because it wouldn’t be New York without a little chaos. We embraced the less than perfect weather and eventually ended the night at the Greenpoint subway station, damp hair and all. It was the kind of ending you can’t plan, but always remember.
Mac and Andrea are the kind of couple you instantly hope you stay connected with after their session is over. The type of couple you just have fun with and nothing feels forced. Williamsburg and Greenpoint weren’t just locations; they were part of their story, and getting to document that felt incredibly special. I love my couples. Anyways, enjoy!
